JAS Top Ten is displayed in an experimental virtual gallery built using Epic Games’ 3D software, Unreal Engine. Created by alumni and digital artist Rachael Cary McMunn (@carym_art), this gallery is an imperfect recreation of real-life with the hope of allowing artists and art viewers to visualize what this exhibition would have been like if installed in person.
If you are interested in downloading the virtual gallery ‘game’ and spending some time looking at the work, please follow the steps below on how to correctly download the file for your operating system. There is a download available for both Mac and Windows users.
Instructions for Download
1. Start by clicking the button below to download the file from a OneDrive link. The file is about 3 GB and will take a few moments.
2. Unzip/uncompress the file. Then proceed to open as follows: JASTopTen_Mac > MacNoEditor > JASTopTen_OpenMe (This should be the same for Windows users with a slightly different file name).
3. Your computer may prompt you that the application is unrecognized and you may need to override this security warning to play. For mac users, you can do this by moving the entire download folder (JASTopTen) to your applications folder, control-right-clicking the file, and then clicking open. Macs will prompt you if you are sure you want to open and you can say yes. For PC users, you should simply be able to click ‘more info’ on the warning and then a button for ‘run anyway’ should appear at the bottom.
4. The gallery will take a moment to load, so hang in there! The black screen will fill up after the file loads.
5. Click the screen to get started, use your arrow keys to move and your mouse to look around. Standing in front of videos will play their audio, and videos loop, so hang around for a moment to get the full video experience.
6. When you’re all done you can press the ‘Esc’ key to quit the virtual experience
